Guesthouse Revitalisation

Guesthouse in the Heidelberg/Mannheim region:
Revitalisation for the fiftieth anniversary

Just in time for its 50th anniversary, a company in the Heidelberg region revitalised its guesthouse next to the headquarters. Where employees were previously met by sober, functional spaces, a homely flair now prevails. The bar, lobby and conference rooms invite people to come together – and the corridors invite them to play.

WESTERMANN, acting as the general contractor, was responsible for delivering the project – first for the gutting and then for the interior fit-out. Floors, walls and ceilings, electrical installations and the modules for media technology were completely renewed. What was special: planning by REM Assets and the fit-out by WESTERMANN were carried out almost simultaneously, piece by piece. An unusual approach that only works hand in hand, in close exchange between planners and implementers – and which delivered a build time of just six months. The roughly one thousand square metres of open space on the ground floor of the guesthouse are shared by the lobby, bar, breakfast room and conference halls.

Grey Pandomo flooring characterises the lobby, reception and bar, while natural stone and parquet dominate in the breakfast area. Inlaid brass strips run through every floor as design elements that both separate and connect – hand-crafted intarsias that frame the inset carpet at the reception, just as they do the natural-stone elements set into the parquet or the shuffleboard court in the corridor. Spatial structuring elements such as the bar, the buffet, the seating booths and benches in the breakfast room, the reception area with its niches and furniture – all were manufactured by WESTERMANN at its Denkendorf production facility, as were the upholstered seats and bespoke accessories. General contractor, indeed.
