How do offices need to be designed today so that they meet the diverse demands of modern work? Between focused work, creative collaboration and necessary recovery, flexibility, ergonomics and well-being are increasingly coming into focus. At the SynergySpace of the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics IBP in Stuttgart, exactly these questions are being investigated in a practice-oriented way – with innovative spatial concepts, scientific measurement methods and modular furniture solutions as central building blocks for the world of work of tomorrow.

Modern working environments under test

At the SynergySpace of the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics IBP at its Stuttgart location, current research is exploring how forward-looking office environments can specifically support collaboration, concentration and well-being – for more focus, flexibility and health at the workplace. The space is divided into four flexibly usable zones, from focus workstation to relaxation area, providing optimal conditions for practice tests and acoustic measurements under realistic conditions.

Right in the middle: our height-adjustable motu project table combined with Xbrick®, as part of the furnishing concept. The modular setup allows the working environment and the individual seating situation to be flexibly adjusted at any time – for more ergonomics, comfort and performance at the workplace.

The aim of the multimodal research approach is clearly stated:
“To objectively measure acoustic and visual privacy and integrate it into office planning, so that future working environments remain resource-efficient and health-promoting in the long term” (Fraunhofer Institute IBP)
