The office furniture series motu, manufactured by Karl Westermann GmbH & Co. KG and designed by the Stuttgart-based development office wd3 GmbH, is a Winner at the German Design Award 2018. The competition recognises innovative, forward-looking products and design achievements. And that is exactly what the office furniture series motu stands for, with its adaptable, variable and mobile elements in a reduced design that draws on archetypal forms.
A central idea behind the planning and realisation of the motu office furniture is always movement. The mobility of the furniture, its adaptability, as well as the movement of the user. The formula work in motion sums it up: movement enters the work, and movement enters the office furniture. Routines are broken open, new perspectives and ways of thinking are stimulated.
As an office furniture series, motu brings everything required as the basis of a contemporary office infrastructure: writing and conference tables in various sizes, electronically lockable storage solutions and partition elements. All elements are mobile, from the height-adjustable work table and the locker through to the temporary micro-workstations on castors that can be quickly grouped together for team work. And with its acoustic components, largely integrated into the furniture, motu goes well beyond that – towards a thoroughly coherent working atmosphere that engages all the senses, offers space for creative processes, conveys a sense of comfort and invites individualisation and identification with one’s own workplace and the company. motu creates free spaces for its users – also in the literal sense: seated or standing, at the desk as a place of retreat or at the mobile communication table.
That makes motu worthy of a Winner award by the jury of the German Design Award. The German Design Award is presented by the Rat für Formgebung (German Design Council), Germany’s authority for branding and design.
